The Hot tub pump assembly is one of the most important parts of your spa.  It creates water flow that allows your heater to turn on.  It provides circulation to filter your water and give you a clean, fresh soaking experience.  And it creates turbulence for that soothing water massage to help relieve sore muscles and tickle your body with a pleasureable stream of hydrotherapy.

A pump is made up of two major pieces, and electric motor and a hard plastic wet end.   As an analogy, think of a fan:  the motor turns the fan blades to move the air. 




In a pump, the wet end is sealed so no water gets out.  As you can probably guess, the electric motor spins a metal shaft that connects to the wet end.  The wet end has an Impeller (similar to  the fan blades) that moves the water. 

A frequent cause of a tripping circuit breaker is when the ceramic seal fails and the wet end leaks.  Water is sucked into the motor and shorts it out.

One of the issues we have trying to help customers over the phone is when they try to describe a problem and we have no common language to understand what they are seeing.  For example, a “little metal tube” could be a heater, fuse, chrome-covered pipe, or a piece of an old aluminum beach chair that someone shoved into their hot tub.
