Getting Ready for Winter 2025
We often get calls about how to prepare a hot tub for the winter. Many customers like to drain and clean their spas for the winter, and it’s certainly a good time to do your annual filter replacement. But winter brings special challenges to a hot tub, and being prepared can save you a lot of panic when the weather gets cold.
Hot tubs have lots of electric parts. And if a part fails when the temperature is below freezing, your hot tub could be at danger for an expensive breakdown. Freezing water cracks pipes. And cracked pipes can get very expensive to repair.
It always a good idea to give the hot tub a “once over” to try to catch old parts that are at risk of breakdown. We offer a Preventative Maintenance service call where we examine all the electronics to try to catch obviously worn out components before we get that call in the middle of February, when there’s a foot of snow on the hot tub and the outdoor temperature is 20 degrees. Click here for more information about our pre-winter checkup.
Regardless of the age or condition of your hot tub, we recommend that you invest in a pair of inexpensive immersion heaters to help you protect your investment in case of a winter breakdown. The most common type of immersion heater is a 500 watt fishtank heater. It won’t heat your hot tub to 104 degrees, but it will prevent it from freezing up while you find someone to help you fix it. Click here for more information about how fish tank heaters are perfect for hot tubs.
We get lots of phone calls from people that just have a hot tub question, and we are always happy to help out when we’re in the shop. That being said, this website has been on-line for over ten years and has become a pretty good source of hot tub advice. There is a search field on the right side (or at the bottom of the page if you’re on a cell phone) labeled “Search our website.” If you’re looking for some hot tub info, try using that search function. There’s a good chance someone that we’ve already posted an article that will answer your questions.
Go Chemical Free in 2026. Jersey Hot Tub Repair is an exclusive dealer for the Ecosmarte Spa Disinfection system. Image a hot tub with clean water, no chlorine, no bromine, no salt and almost no work on your part. Ecosmarte also makes a system for swimming pools. Starting in 2025, we have partnered with Synchrony Bank to offer both zero interest and low rate financing to help our customers save money.

Repair or Replace?
With the cost of new hot tubs climbing, many hot tub owners are choosing to repair and rebuild, instead of replace. With good care there’s no reason most hot tubs can’t last 25 years. As a matter of fact, many of the tubs we service are in their 20’s.
Over the past year, we added staff to ensure phone calls are returned quicker, we invested in scheduling software to get to your home faster, to communicate with our customers better, and we’ve been stockpiling parts to try to stay ahead of the market shortages and erratic price changes that other companies may be experiencing.
